On June 21, Chemainus Communities in Bloom lost a devoted member and friend, Marion Hawkins, to the ravages of ALS. Marion worked tirelessly for our group from its early days until just recently.
In 2010, as is often the case with volunteer organizations, CCiB was losing steam. Marion stepped up to take the Chair, reorganized and revitalized us. Her trusty spaniel, Bella, by her side.
Amongst the many projects CCiB has undertaken, Marion was especially proud of her role in the design and completion of Gerry Smith (Locomotive) Park.
Marion kept us focussed even after her body didn’t allow her to do the physical work. She would often appear, in her wheelchair, to support our work parties.
Marion, you will be missed.
