Chemainus Communities in Bloom volunteers were hard at it recently planting more than 1,300 daffodils and almost 1,000 pansies at the Henry Rd traffic circle. The fruits of their labours will be evident in the Spring. Next summer watch for a fabulous display of red and white flowers in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday!

Edna Brown

edna-brown-sept-2016After 66 years in Chemainus, Edna Brown is moving to Vernon. She, and her late husband, Al, were long time members of our group, bringing with them a tireless and dedicated work ethic, enthusiasm and infectious laughter. We wish her a fond farewell and send our very best for a happy life and new adventures!

Marion

On June 21, Chemainus Communities in Bloom lost a devoted member and friend, Marion Hawkins, to the ravages of ALS. Marion worked tirelessly for our group from its early days until just recently.

Marion HawkinsIn  2010, as is often the case with volunteer organizations, CCiB was losing steam. Marion stepped up to take the Chair, reorganized and revitalized us. Her trusty spaniel, Bella, by her side.

Amongst the many projects CCiB has undertaken, Marion was especially proud of her role in the design and completion of Gerry Smith (Locomotive) Park.

Marion kept us focussed even after her body didn’t allow her to do the physical work. She would often appear, in her wheelchair, to support our work parties.

Marion, you will be missed.
